Why a Super Bowl Ad Makes Sense for kgb

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

As i said yesterday here, we’re really very excited about airing an ad during the super bowl for our kgb 542542 text service. And we love that it’s going to air during the third quarter too, for maximum exposure.

We launched the kgb text service a little over a year ago. At the time, we figured that the service would appeal only to heavy texters, tweens to teens.

We found though, that we had much broader appeal. Young adults are using kgb to find restaurants, get train schedules, and settle bar bets. Parents, especially moms of tweens and teens are using the service as a better way to get information, to get answers to their questions.

So our ad campaign has evolved along with this wider adoption of the service. So while we have ads like this:

we also have ads like this:

So, it makes perfect sense for kgb to advertise during one of the most watched TV programs of the year, when almost 100 million people will be watching. From the beginning, our ads have been edgy, provocative, funny. And the ad we choose to air during the Super Bowl will continue that tradition. We are, though, very excited about playing in the super bowl field after launching only a year ago.

kgb Fact of the Day: What Is the Temperature in Space?

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Often, our Special Agents answer questions that are so intriguing that they are inclined to do further research. So here is our Agents choice for question of the day:

What temperature is it in space? Empty space itself cannot have a temperature as it is a vacuum (an absence of matter). An object (matter) that absorbs & emits radiation perfectly, at the Earth’s distance from Sun, will reach 7 degrees C.

More details:

If an object is shielded from the Sun but exposed to interplanetary and interstellar radiation, it reaches about 5 Kelvin. If it were far from all stars and galaxies, it would come into equilibrium with the microwave background at about 2.7 Kelvin.

Space is the unlimited expanse in which everything is located. We can say Space or Outer Space is the seemingly empty places (vacuum) between planets and stars. Space is not really empty, but the material in space is so dilute that it is really hard to detect it.

Along with the conservation of matter and energy there is a universal, fundamental truth or principle of the conservation of Space; that Space cannot be created nor destroyed. Matter, energy and Space each have an essential and indispensable role in existence.

Matter and energy are conserved in Space and, in turn, space is in every way conserved as a place where matter and energy exist. Neither being created, destroyed, nor affected in any way by energy, motion and matter, space remains.

The kgb Special Agents tour and the kgb 542-542 text service have received more attention from the press:

EventMarketer magazine covers the tour, talks about how the service works, and has a quote from kgb tour leader Sarah McVittie.

And the MSNBC website has a story on an interview with kgb CEO Bruce Stewart on a local radio station in Milwaukee.

kgb Agents– Tuscaloosa to Panama City

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Oh I come from Alabamy with a banjo on my knee.

Well, not quite.

Special Agent Damschroder here. Today was a day of twists and turns. We began the day in Tuscaloosa, AL, packing up out squad cars to head south to Florida for Spring Break. As we put our keys in the ignitions, we got a call from the local television station saying that they’d like to do a story on us. Off we sped to the University of Alabama to meet with the news team. After a couple victory laps and an interview, we headed out for Panama City Beach, Fl. We’ll be in Panama City Beach for most of the week, so come say hello and get yourself a special KGB T-shirt!
