The film centers on an angry house that is miffed with its new tenants in this low-budget flick. Katie and Micah are a couple of twenty-somethings who move into a house in San Diego. Katie has a heightened interest in the paranormal and actually believes that bad-guy spirits have been trailing her around since childhood. When things start to go bump in the night, Micah starts jumping on the bandwagon and begins to believe that a ghost has invaded their humble abode.
They consult with a paranormal researcher who basically tells them he can’t help with the situation so Micah sets up an elaborate in-house video system to start capturing any ghostly behavior. When they add a Ouija board to the mix, this enrages the already P-O’d ghostie.
While some have deemed Paranormal Activity as low-budget trash (the budget was $15,000), others are proclaiming it as the scariest movie of the decade and perhaps all time. The film is rated R as folks who are frightened to death tend to utter expletives.
While only released in limited locales, the movie’s loyal cult following and viral marketing hype have resulted in its national release beginning Friday, October 16th.
